engine oil

I have a 1964 Norton atlas, could someone recommend engine and gearbox oils to me ? someone has told me Castrol r40 for the engine but I would appreciate some more opinions, thanks

In addition to good info shown there, Castrol R40 is a castor based RACING oil = not such a good suggestion for road use,
if thats what you intend to do with it.

Rohan is correct. You would not use Castrol R for a road bike.

Apart from being expensive and only obtained through specialist outlets it should be changed every 500 to 1000 miles maximum. It is a specialist race oil.

(Actually thinking about it 1000 miles would be too much unless you were doing a 24 hour run )
