Just started 850 mk3 after 4 months idle. It has a mikuni 36 and has always needed the choke on till warm. Today it just dies after choke off !! Pilot jet ?? Cheers, Roy.

Can this new shit go off in 4 months ? Easy job , carb out tomorrow. I had everything spotless. Iuse +5 and add stabiliser. Getting fed up ! Cheers, Roy.

A bad pilot circuit would do what your report.
I do not stop carb cleaning until I see good flow up and out the two tiny ports in the carb throat floor...any block there will negatively affect idle. See Bushmans Guide for Tuning Amal Concentric for tips and tricks.

Yes, modern fuel can go off quickly.

The lower the octane to begin with, the less you’ll have left after sitting for a while.

So basically, putting cheap / low octane in means you’ll have something barely flammable after a lay up… especially in hot weather.

Well then, petrol in float bowl sticky. Ethanol resistant petrol pipe my a*se ! All cleaned out and await new pipe ! At least the tank is now fine. Installed 100% ethanol proof lining and it remains intact. Awkward to install but fixed. P.S , Biggest supplier of British bioethanol goes bust !!!😂🥳🥳🤣

Having installed “ethanal proof” lining in three tanks in the last 20 years, I opine the following:
2 were Caswells and have worked fine.
1 was POR-15. It failed miserably.
It is all about the prep work to clean and etch the tank interior.
I don’t believe I would ever install a tank sealer again. It is a mess if it fails, and they fail.
Your mileage may vary.

That's why I posted.
Around 95, getting back into Nortons's I purchase a nice Mark 3. Had many of the same issues.
It was a tank sealer peeling. Big mess. Had a company strip it out and clean it up.
Did a nice job, they are long gone....

Good call. I had a friend that would call me like clockwork every few months because his T140 wouldn't run right and I'd clean out his idle jets (again.) Turned out it was his tank pealing from a dying Kreem coating. I actually checked for fuel contamination but it was so slight I missed it. I've had good luck with "Redkote" which is quite easy to work with and can be removed easily if you change your mind with acetone or MEK. Mine was actually coloured blue.

What? Thats not possible per all the glass tank pundits out there! WELL DONE YOU!
Must have been a good job, s that the Caswell binds to the whole inside surface. After my experience with a PR tank, I would not trust it without cutting the bottom out to ensure a good bonding surface.

I used fertan. Great result, however installation is not simple or as straightforward as some vendors suggest. Luckily I had a compressor, 1/4 bsp plugs and male female 1/4 air line for tool connection. Living near the artic circle (scotland) you need to keep the shed temp above 18%c. Not for those without a small workshop. However the result is brilliant. I hate f***ing ethanol . Roy.
