I am nearing end of bringing a MK III closer to correct. I recently picked up a pair of rebuilt gauges. When I hooked up the lights (one bulb in each gauge) I find they give a warm but useless glow. There is no way I will be able to see the gauges at night. I would sort of like to know how fast I am going. Anyone have a fix?

Even with better lighting I still wouldn't see the digits. I just sort of guess.

What bulbs are fitted?

The Smiths instrument bulbs are normally a 2.2w "643", "BA9" or "MCC" type?

5w BA9 replacements are available. (23w too, but I don't think they are intended to be used as instrument bulbs)

If your Commando has the Veglia instrument option, it could have capless T10 "wedge" bulbs instead?

There's also a pos/neg LED option for both types: http://www.norbsa02.freeuk.com/goffyleds.htm
