Hi all,

I'm trying to build up the courage to dig in and replace my gearbox sprocket -- I think there's probably a 23T on there now as the previous owner had a 16" wheel on the back. It's more than a little overgeared now that I've put a stock rear wheel on.

So I'm looking at different sprockets & am wondering about people's experience with Emgo sprockets. Good/bad/otherwise? The price seems attractive, but if they're really poor quality it's just not worth my time to use one. Anyway, please feel free to share your experiences.

Thanks,
Mike

I know nothing about Emgo sprokets but considering the amount of work it is to get in there I think Id'e buy the best quality one I possibly could. I'm wondering with the stock wheel size & a 23 tooth, how fast are you going say at 4,000 rpm in 4th gear???

I agree with gtsun. I've got some Emgo handlebars that are OK quality. But, I can change them in about 15 minutes. Can't say that about a front sprocket, and it's more than a little bit hard to keep an eye on how it's wearing. Some Emgo stuff is OK, but I think in this case, buy the best you can buy.

Maybe this is easier said than done. Prices for sprockets seem to vary from $35 to $70 and most suppliers don't list a manufacturer. I've emailed a few and hope to find out what brand they carry.

That said does anyone have experience with Emgo sprockets?

That's a good question, and if I had a speedometer cable I could probably give you an answer! If it stops raining anytime soon I'll try to take my GPS with me on a ride to see. I can tell you that I very rarely use 4th gear on the backroads around here.

With my 19" wheel and a 19 tooth sprocket at 4K in 3rd I'm doing about 50. I would imagine a 23 tooth would be about 65? I too spend a lot of time in 3rd. The vibes are better there.
