Bear with me on this...when returning from the International Rally in August the ignition warning light came on on my MK III. This was not a major issue, ferry only 50 miles away & I easily made it home to Lincolnshire, on checking the voltage it appeared to be above 13V & I put it down to the intermittent issue I've had with my assimilator for the past 17 years (replacement in garage, my own NOS).
Been out for a couple of rides since then, nice bright red iwl, hah crappy assimilator! Last Saturday was unseasonably warm & time available, so off for a blast - on the return journey I discovered that the assimilator was err, working. The battery died & the boyer went haywire. I managed to get off the narrow, ditched fen road & sat in the sun awaiting collection by FJ at a (sadly closed) pub.
Battery is recharged & ready to be put back so I can trace the problem (I'm sure further posts will follow ;-) alternator?) So, to my question, my electronic tach needle is currently stuck, frozen north of 7k rpm, how do I get it back to zero, just switch on? Or will it sweep to about 5k & reset back to where it started in the 'polar' region?. Or is it (in the vernacular) fecked! (boyer massively advanced due to low voltage & pipes blued in +/- 1/2 mile)?
Cheers, Mike
Ah yes, useful info for you if in a similar position: I got 155 miles from my MotBatt battery which (I'm guessing) was running at total loss between 28 Aug and 15 Oct (no lights, satnav used, 3 or 4 electric starts & garaged) when fully discharged. No problems starting in that time until our ignominious return.
