I'm going w/an acewell speedo tach. Don't need the speedo drive. Do I need a shim to replace the drove unit? If so does anyone know the thickness? Thanx,Rick

65 degrees here and I'm about 2weeks away from having him reassembled. Surgery has been successful and now I need to rouse him from anesthesia gently.

You can make one from aluminium scraps, just trace the outline of the gasket, cut, drill holes and set in place. Just make sure it is flat. I made mine from ¼" aluminium, but thinner stock (1/8") would be OK too.

Jean,
I believe he means the speedo gearbox on the rear wheel. By the way, congratulations on all the coverage you're getting on your cafe racer. It is well deserved! I received my INOA newsletter this weekend and guess who got the cover shot :D !

Back to the speedo drive. You will need a spacer the same length as the tophat spacer in the the drive. In fact, you could even drive the spacer out of the speedo gearbox and use it.

You might want to get rid of the iron spacer and turn one from aluminium like this:
