Electric starter problems

I am sure it has been covered but I can't find it. Is there a step by step guide in here reference how to pull the starter out and overhaul it. Mine is making some bad noises and not turning the motor over.????

well I put sprag in the search and it comes up 1 result, how do I then get to that result I am not that familiar with using the site. Basically what I am after is some step by step guide on how to get to the starter motor gear etc so I can repair it. I mean is it a massive job requiring special tools or relatively simple. What has to come off? .Any help much appreciated.

Could be sprag, kickback device, starter, solenoid or start switch. Even a low battery can cause the solenoid to chatter. You could troubleshoot this by using jumper leads off a car battery directly to the starter, (remember it's positive earth) if it works ok, look at the electrical system, if you still get the bad noise, look at the starter first because if you have to go into the primary, that's a much bigger job.
