A few people have made murmurings about Electrex World here and on the Facebook groups.

Recently I posted up a set of Commando Wiring Diagrams for those that are considering installing the STK-102D-DC kit onto their pride and joy.

You can find the wiring diagrams here:

Norton Commando Wiring Diagram + Electrex World

We have recently bought and fitted the same Electrex World STK-102D-DC kit to a Norton Dominator 650SS which we have built as a Cafe Racer.

As the kit is identical to what you'd be fitting to a Commando, I thought that some of you may be interested in reading a write up of my experience with the kit.

You can find it here.

Electrex World – unboxing, fitting & opinions

It's a bit wordy, but hopefully the level of detail will help those who are struggling with an install, or alternatively help those that are researching whether or not to buy one.

Nice write up and a very good and clear warning to all!

Thanks for posting.

Wow, just read the report.
RM-21 with a Zener and cap is looking just fine.
Or a 3 phase and a Mosfett.

Bummer, I was hoping you'd found a nice upgrade. Sorry you had so much trouble.

I had the same experience with hard starting , poor idle and poor alternator output with Electrex World on a Commando. Prominent US vendor refused to take it back. Went back to stock points and Zenor, works fine.

My brother uses two Electrex ignition systems in applications far more extreme than you will ever encounter with a Commando. They are excellent
He races two Kawasaki two-stroke triples in sidecars, on speedway - a 500 and a 750. Both are on methanol and jetted as lean as you can get with reshaped cylinder heads - right across the full range of throttle openings. The only problem he has ever had was when a plug lead popped out of a coil on the 750. He plugged it back in and took the bike out in the next race. It had stuffed one of the boxes - it detonated and split a cylinder head.

Link seems to be broken.

It’s not a matter of extreme, it’s a matter (at least here) of how it works with a Commando.

@swooshdave did you ask me for one? Sorry if I missed you!

No, I didn't ask. I was sorta joking. But if you wanted another example of a custom wiring harness I have one for you.

Or maybe you will look at this mess and run away. :D
