I have fitted Legendary GPS speedo and electronic rev counter. The suggested fixing method is to smear silicone down the side of the instruments before sliding them into the pods
For me this caused a few concerns
1. The sliding fit of the instrument into the pod is "snug" but not enough to stop it turning and lifting, but in some positions they jammed & with the RGM lower pod plate assembly fitted there is no real way to get a finger or probe in to push them back out and risk damage to plastic casing or internals
2. Applying even a small amount of silicone IMHO will make the situation significantly worse, as once the RTV has set there will be no way to get them back out.
3. Any misalignment when installing will be permanent
So I decided to descreatly drill and tap the pods and insert short 4mm stainless taper point grub screws.
These just bite into the plastic casing of the instrument without damage, allow them to be easily removed and re-aligned if the pods have been taken off
As mention earlier let the tirade commence
