Way back when noise regs started in the UK I silenced my bike and likked it a bit.....then went back to near the original set up with just a baffle...made about 112 or so, but rules were bizzarely '110 + or - 5' so 115.....

Most I ever saw recorded by a Norton was Lloyd Dickinson's long megas at 117.....same as Reads 500MV at the same track.....

Fractured exhaust suggests not enough rubber down the line...

Depends on your budget but NRP at Bilsthorpe Nottingham, will do you a custom stainless complete system to meet noise regs and power needs for £500. He has done work on the dyno with Dave Watson's Nortons. Probably increase your power output above the open system. Of course it won't look like a works space frame exhaust.

Nigel is a nice guy to deal with and a current racer himself. If you are happy with your downpipes he might make silencers only.

Lloyd Dickenson , there a name from the past , Aintree champion back when I raced a seeley, ( 2 into 1 Blair with 5" open megga ! very loud.) my bike had a Dickinson cam , fast but didnt last long.
Once the exhaust had fractured I improved the rubber mounting points.
Been in touch with NRP this morning and sent photos over for a quote, I realise the exhausts wont look period but the " need for speed " animal says "so what"!

Lloyd is still out there and most likely will be at Cadwell for the 80th Celebs on the 3rd August. Mainly playing with his collection of 2 strokes these days. I am hoping to be there.

I had a system made for my Rickman Metisse build in January this year, say hi to Nigel. He also has a guy two doors away pretty familiar with Norton heads.

My system is high level and goes inside the frame then out for the silencers.....doesn't look that original, certainly compared to what I used in '75 to '79, but a lot of people did use high level systems and it certaintly makes finding ground clearance easier!

Long way from me, twice, but worth it. PM me and I will see if I can send you some pictures of the exhaust.

Forget all that megga" thing a" me" rubbish....get that throttle open and keep it there! Remember ; theres young fast pilots, but no old fast pilots.

Following the last posting , I heeded all the advice from the forum and checked everything out with the major item being a set of exhausts from NRP, Nigel made them look as authentic as possible while providing added performance . following the installation of the exhausts and no other changes we dynoed the bike again this time with seemingly better results . Russ the dyno guy was pleased , I was happy and the bike goes much better than ever ! lap times are coming down and never being satisfied the question is what to do next? Thanks to all the responses that pointed me in the right direction.

Pleased to hear Nigel sorted something for you :)

Ok, its a Dynojet dyno so we might take your near 70hp at the rear wheel as maybe nearer 65/67 (I am told they always overread a bit)...

So you are getting good horsepower, won't say it can't be bettered but I would suspect each extra horsepower from there on up will be hard won.......

Probbaly moe dyno time with a programmable ignition and more jets.....

But it sounds like an enjoyable ride....go ride and enjoy :D

Be interested to hear more about the experience of using the dyno.....did you spend time making adjustments?, or really just run it?

How much of the experience was you and how much the dyno guy?

Steve , Russ at at torque tune , welcomes you into the dyno room , explains everything and lets you get as involved as you like. The first run showed results almost the same as the final one , we then tried various jetting both up and down , advancing and retarding the ignition till we ended up more or less were we started.

Much nicer looking charts! I'd agree with SteveA about future improvements. At this point, you're probably pretty close to as good as it's going to get with current configuration. And the future improvements are going to come in smaller increments. I'd guess that any significant increases are going to require more serious head work.

Lovely bike. Great to see it in getting used properly.

What coils are you running with your Boyer set up?

Can't help but wonder if a fatter spark might yield a few more BHP...
