Dunstall Plates - Value?

Well, I bit the bullet and bought the parts lot.

Turned out the seller was a neat old old guy that had a bunch of Nortons back in the day. He is now riding Harleys and was cleaning out the garage before he moved.

It was really a dogs breakfast, but included some commando specific tools and some good usable parts including a set of Amals, a decent fibreglass interstate seat, a Lockheed caliper, a later model speedo and what appeared to be an mint OEM or NOS Lucas tail lamp assembly for a mid seventies triumph.

Here is a picture of the Dunstall plates. They look to be original and in serviceable condition.

Not sure what I am going to do with them just yet. Might hang them on the shop wall for now.

Found this original Dunstall and the cable looks exactly like mine.

The only difference is where the cable attaches to the brake, mine needs to be more directly in the brake. I bet that will come as it breaks in...no pun intended.

Although, I have to admit, seeing the Z Plates side by side with the Dunstall plates, I like the Dunstall’s so much better!

You may not need the zip tie once you’ve mounted exhaust rubbers. Looks like it might just be ok if looped under the rubber bobbins.

Reviving an old thread....

Was recently going through the the misc. parts lot that contained the dunstall plates. There were some random brackets and an almost homemade looking centre stand thatI hadn’t paid much attention to.

Saw post on a norton facebook group confirming the existence of a stand to accommodate the 2-1-2 exhaust. Low and behold I had same attachments and stand (ie the round tubing style, not the square ).

Also appears that some of the random parts are dunstall muffler brackets.

Have a local guy that might be interested, but am not sure a fair value to charge.

Does anyone have any ballpark approximations? Had trouble finding comparables.

Those other brackets were for the 2-1-2 exhaust and do necessitate some changes to the stock muffler mount.. I could be wrong on some of this. My settup hasn't been on for awhile. It's a crap shoot as to worth of these brackets.

Thanks 850cmndo.

i am really struggling trying to get a rough ballpark on the centre stand value. The guy interested needs it to complete the his set up. I don’t want to price gouge, but don’t want to give it away either.

Those center stands are hard to find. I can’t remember exactly the price the last couple I saw went for, but is close to what you paid for the whole lot.

Since they are rare, I bet you could probably fetch near enough to the price of a new AN center stand.

FYI, The Dunstall Commando center stand needs special mounting plates .

They are all but pure unobtanium. As such, they're in a different market. I wouldn't take anything less than 400.00. I sold mine WITH the plates for more than that explaining I had projects of my own to fund. He understood. No hard feelings. On a side note, years ago I sent my entire settup to Paul at Viking Exhaust. We'd been talking and he thought he might be interested in adding it to his line. Never saw anything come of it.

A Dunstall centre stand and complete 2-1-2 headers sold in the UK recently for £90 after being re-listed on Ebay 5 times

Previous thread with center stand and mounting plates Jimbo mentioned.
