The removeable back brake cover was usally polished, the rear brake could be either polished, left plain ot painted black.

In my experience
The rear drum removable hub centre cover plate on the right of the rear wheel is alloy and polished
The rear brake plate is mild steel and painted black
The front brake plate is alloy and polished
The flat area on the left hand side of the front wheel is polished
The ribbed centre of wheel hubs are left rough and matt
The outside area of the hubs where the spokes exit is polished (?)

Lots of Solvol Autosol and black finger tips to ensure a super polished finish
No fiddling with the wife's bits on the same day :(

You are a bit rude, but . . . . . .
I gave up polishing by cloth many moons ago, I purchased a small polishing mob to fit my Black and decker and find it less of a chore. . . . .
