Drouin supercharger (2012)

Methanol fuel is a form of chemical supercharging and commando engines love it. - Less heat build-up and easier to get the jetting right. The downside is fuel economy, but when you build a bike the major objective should be functionality. The end use dictates the direct you take, otherwise you end up with a dog's breakfast. With my bike there is an historic racing class with suits it. The cut-off date for using methanol is 1972. 850 Commandos arrived in Australia in 1973. But who is arguing ?

I've run a methanol blend in a race Norton once, way back when, and it does have its virtues. Unfortunately, there aren't any methanol pumps at the local gas stations, so its not really a viable alternative to supercharging for a street bike. I am thinking about using it on the landspeed bike, primarily for it's cooling effect. The engine is hotter than stink after a run with the nitrous on. On the bad side, it is a fairly potent neurotoxin, so does require some care in handling.

yep i agree i have a twin belt drouin on the shelf its a beautiful ornament ,but an aisin 500 on the bench, but time, knee caps and money are all against me at the moment, plus three customers bikes cheers
Just trying to figure out the phrase "but an aisin 500 on the bench". Sorry to be dense, but what is(or should be) "aisin".

It's a supercharger that comes as standard on some Japanese cars,it's an Eaton type ,it's the same as fitted to black commando in the photos, many people use them on cars/bikes etc, cheers

Correct on the turbine spindle bearings, same speed between single belt and double belt versions. The overall ratio was 7:1 so in theory, at an engine redline of 7,000 rpm the turbine would be attempting to reach 49,000 rpm. The flat belt on the two belt system was designed to slip; that's how you modulate peak boost. I never used a single belt system but from what I recall of seeing them, the had the same belt slip feature.

The flat slides that came with the Drouin were crude but workable if you recognized the slide and body were machined for a pull to close cable; something that was totally not mentioned in the Drouin instructions and yet totally necessary. Go ahead, ask me how I know.

I always thought the Drouin could have used some sort of intercooler.
To get the RPM's on the single belt version, boy the pulley size differential was great ! Look at how small the supercharger pulley was! And a photo of the rinky dink "injector"

trying to locate a belt for my supercharger, any ideas?
Mine is the earlier twin belt setup and when I bought mine I ordered it from a company in Germany
I can't remember the name of the company
But it was rated for what I need and all the spec was online

If you could remember , I might be able source a belt from them

Turned a good running Nort into a better one, might need to replace the 20yr old tires!

I would imagine 20 year old tires wouldn't go too far with that thing on there.

Excuse the question. You've probably covered performance elsewhere. I did not do a search.
