Driving me nuts

I would put in a new battery and see if that solves the problem

The fact that you say it is charged up does not verify that it can
no longer take a load, I learned this twice on fully charged batteries

If he's using the recommended battery, that's a $200 experiment.

Thank you one and all for your suggestions. The battery is new. I shall be pursuing the bad earth theory today and I will report back, hopefully with success.

Even new batteries can be bad. Take it to a battery store and get an analysis based on testing.

With the help of an autoelectrician, found the problem today. Battery too small, alternator not putting out enough juice. The alternator was a standard Lucas for a non electric start Norton and the battery was for a standard kick start Norton. As I suspected. Ordered the bits from Matt at CNW. Patiently waiting.

If you’ve ordered the Shoria battery from Matt I think you’re gonna be pleased Ken. Super light and high cranking amps, it’ll spin your motor just great!

Mine was 40 years old when it gave me some trouble. I cleaned it out and works fine now. Yours should be ok at that young age.. Sorry. Cant give you any clues as I have never experienced that. Good luck with finding it. Let us know when you do.
