Hi

I have a distributor 99 slimline Dommie that I am sorting.
However I no longer have any spares for the distributor.
I gave them away at the club many years before I obtained
this bike. I have plenty of Lucus Rita & Boyer spares.
Can I update to electronic ignition without having
machining work done on the distributor?
I have found an electronic ignition pick up on e bay,
However it states it is for negative earth? All my bikes are
positive earth & I dont intend to change this one iether.
Any suggestions?

Thanks Chris

I was able to easily install a Boyer ignition into my 1969 Mercury in place of the auto advance and points.
No modifications required at all. I would be Leary of buying any electronic ignition which is stated to be for positive ground. Maybe it would be fine, but I would want to see the manufacturer's installation instructions.

I fitted a Boyer electronic ignition on my Matchless G15 with distributor. I had to space the plate with the trigger coils out from the body of the distributor by a little bit because the rotor touched the solder on the back side of the plate, It took just a couple of small washer and a little filing of the solder to get it working.

I took a body, bored it out...fitted another lump containing two sealed for life ball race bearings for the shaft to run on and employed an early Boyer unit...worked perfectly on our old so called 'classic' race Atlas back in the 80s......
Vastly more accurate than crappy old points.

Hi

Thank you. I will go with the Boyer & ensure that there is clearance. :D
Fitted my first Boyer nearly 40 years ago!!!!!

All the best Chris
