Hi Guys,

Found a day to work on dismantling my total basket case 73 750 today. While having a hell of a time removing the engine sprocket (even with the proper tools) I nicked the edge of the primary side case.

My question is as I get ready to split the cases and have them vapor blasted should I have this clean up and filled in prior to or afterward. Thanks for your help guys.

Pull it apart, give it a good clean up, do what you have to do with the primary case, I would just use a bit of filler to fix that or if you do have a tig welder then do it properly, the damage is above the seal as well on top of the primary case so no oil should get up there, the primary don't hold that much oil it only splashes the bottom of the chain to keep it lubed.

I fortunately know a guy who welds aluminum. Just hoping it looks decent.

TIG it in, sand it down, and polish it up .... only you will know it ever happened.

I agree, TIG it. The cast aluminum Norton used welds beautifully. I have done many such a repair.

Indeedy. Any welder worth their salt will know about grinding it back and polishing it,
until the repair is all but invisible.

Unless (sometimes) strength is more important than looking shiny....
