Do yourself a favor and upgrade your ignition

Just a reminder that upgrading your ignition makes a very pleasurable difference from stock. You can get everything from CNW including the Bosch Coil and wires. One Stop Shopping. And if you read my manuals "FUEL TANK REMOVAL" & "IGNITION COIL" you can do it yourself. --- TODAY!! :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

It's worth it. Ask anyone who has done it. Bike season is here -- enjoy every minute you can.

According to South Bay Norton, the stock wires are not good. They suppress or impede the potential spark. The stock Bosch coils are pretty powerful, but the wires, which are EPA compliant (they don't mess with radio, TV and phone signals) are restrictive and it takes the bike longer to warm up and settle down.
 
I've started up my Sport 4 times now. Only ridden 2 times. I am already getting tired of the cold start procedure. :( I hope to find time this weekend to remove the tank and change the wires.

The STOCK coil is not Bosch at least 2013-2016 is not Bosch. Take an ohms meter and compare them when you replace it with a genuine Bosch coil. The stock coil works well. But the Bosch coil we sourced and shared as a replacement is something that should be replaced if you ride the bike a lot. Have both in front of you and convince yourself if it's worth the upgrade.

Well, I guess as long as I have the tank removed it would be worth my while to replace the coil, too.
 
Richard, I have a 2011 CR what's the best (simple) recommendations to improve cold start and reliability, saw somewhere on here that Coil and Plugs and HT lead changes....and maybe tranny vent kit....anything else ?
 
Coil should be a genuine Bosch one in your bike already. I have a 2012 CR and did change the HT cables and put Iridium plugs. Mapping was improved as well...

You really should read the ‘new to 961’ thread. Lots of info in their about what you need to do.

Just a question that goes off topic a little:
Do Bosch supply coils to fit those bikes with twin cylinders that use just one coil that fires both, (not at the same time)
