By definition, even though it might not always feel like it, those of us with a hobby / obsession with old motorbikes have disposable income, we have to in order to own, restore and maintain these luxury items.

Meanwhile, on the doorstep of Europe, fellow humans are going through unimaginable hell on Earth right now.

Their dire need for support with basic things like transport from harms way, shelter, food, clothing, medicine cannot be overstated.

The are some times in life when we have to re evaluate our definitions of ‘value for money’ and what we can / cannot ‘afford’.

NOW is such a time.

I urge you all to re think that planned accessory purchase and think about our fellow humans in Ukraine. Not only can we help them, but global solidarity sends a powerful message to Putin (and others).

Donating even a small amount could not be easier.

Your impulses are pure but the truth is right now the number of people in dire need worldwide
dwarf those in need in Ukraine. Putin is a right one no doubt but he is just one of many in many
nations and only is where he is because of the support of other even less savoury characters.
Do as your conscience wishes but keep in mind it will be a plaster on a terminal illness.
May we be so lucky as to avoid such a situation.

Understood. And maybe that applies to people in far off lands. Distance does indeed seem directly proportional to things seeming more abstract.

But for people in Europe to look away whilst the biggest humanitarian disaster in Europe since WW2 is unfolding is something I cannot understand.

Huge can of worms you have there Eddie
If we didn't spend our disposable income on our hobby every single time there was crisis somewhere in the world and sent them the money instead then we wouldn't do anything at all on our bikes, boats cars women etc etc
I don't know what the answer is

I have naught against charity but it should be direct, person to person. Why? Well, too many charities skim and if you have any
doubts look at the recent allegations of what happened to the Capt Tom Marching About the Garden money. It isn't really with
anger that I hear this but rather sadness.
So much of this Ukraine story has served authoritarians in the west well as it distracts from their excesses over the past two years.
It becomes the 'never let a crisis go to waste' routine....
And now, time to repair to the garage on this windy and chilly afternoon sealed off from reality!

A friend of mines daughter worked as an agency temp for a charity
She was shocked by two things
One was the amount of money that was skimmed off the top
The second was the money that came in donated from poor countries!
I don't know if it makes a difference but it was a religious charity she worked for

Charities do not come across good when looked at, just look at Stonewall, did good campaigning work for Gay rights and then when the war was won, instead of closing down, they had to carry on with weird Gender Woo stuff.

If you want to give to Ukraine then their Central Bank will take donations direct, you chose humanitarian or military.

My wife volunteers in a charity shop. They get so many donations, anything not sold in a week is bagged up and sent to landfill. When she suggested they bag it up for Ukraine, they couldn't work out how to change the system. We've sent things direct to the DEC. I'm a bit sceptical it will get to Poland or wherever it's needed.though. Hope so.

Hopefully any money or food will reach the people of that need it

The worst thing about all this is we in the west are partly responsible for the attack on Ukraine. Our stupid leaders know very well what Putin is like, yet fund his draconian regime buying billions of Dollars worth of oil & gas etc. It's the same situation with the Chinese; we are appalled by their human rights violations, yet ship half our manufacturing jobs to China to enable us to buy tons of shit we don't really need cheaply.
I feel certain that the Chinese leadership are watching the attack on Ukraine with great interest, & realising that the Americans are weak, the British are full of hot air, & the Europeans couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery. Taiwan could well be the next place we will be sending aid to.

Martyn.

So true.

Why are China, Russia and N Korea have such big armed services, because normal life is a struggle in them countries, join the armed service free food and board, free clothing, get to travel and see other countries, but of course that comes at a cost, could cost your life, dictatorships don't give a stuff about normal people on the streets, people can starve as long as the armed service is looked after and don't tell the truth to their own working class people, in fact tell them nothing except what we want them to know, control all news so they never know the truth and when the people do stand up to them, they go missing or arrested but then they can't arrest everyone, and once the normal people start getting their son back home in body bags then maybe things will change, but then that might be to late and when things get worst for them the hand is on that button.

A lot of those russian soldiers that were captured by the Ukrainians are saying they were tricked , claiming they were out on a military exercise and the next thing they knew they were in a war zone
How true any of that is I don't know?

I've a few unused rifles in Eastern Block calibers they could have to do my part, but..... can't stop Commando necessities.... My bike would become infuriated... maybe become cantankerous, leak oil or fuel, strand me or some such.

Most soldiers are forced into national service and most don't want to fight in a war, its all about power and power hungry leaders and places like N Korea its complusory to do 7 years military service for males and 5 years for females, they have no choice at all and I say China and Russia be no different as well many other countries.

They could do with a few of these . They should have a low electronic signature . A bucket of fist sized rocks for Migs , Sukois etc .

Arrows & their ' Control line wire ( Brass Plated .015 in & .018 in Steel Belt Radial wire ) on a reel . Even Many KITES on ssteel cable ,
the wind theres o.k. for that for a few days .

Quite Frankly , Egg Attacks by youths ,would be ' appropriate .if they drew a armed response , would show somones a pack of wankers .
Adolfs mob tended to overeact , dunno if the commies are that exiteable or unhinged .

Under Russian law conscripts are not allowed into war zones, they were duped into signing a new contract which removed that exemption according to those captured. How true the duping part is is open to debate but the law is there for now.
