Hello to all,
Here is my question, Today I found about someone with several bikes in a shed #1 is a 1976-77 850 commando $800,

#2 is a BSA Rocket not sure on the year $500(my cousin bought the BSA)

and a 1966 Honda Dream, I bought the Dream for $500 and want to get the Norton Any Thoughts on this bike...
I have never had a british bike, I really don't want to let it get away but at the same time it would be a cool project

trick question? joke?

why would you pick a dream over a norton? ...and how can you pass up a commando for $800?

Pictures, condition??? Isit running and we need the address & phone # of the seller so we can go aaa look it over for you. Just for a few years. Seriously for $800.00 clams assuming it's all there your safe.

Considering you didn't state the condition of the Commando, if all the parts are there, $800 is a fair price for a nonrunner. If you've spent anytime on this site, you already know the amount most Commando owners have invested. Probably around the 10K mark today. 20K+ if you don't do a lot of the work yourself. You can easily see that the original price has very little to do with the final cost of most of the finely restored and upgraded Commandos you see pictured on this site. Its a hobby, not an investment.

I know that it is a STEAL, I just did'nt have the cash at that time.. I know that I could flip this bike easy, as far as I know it was started the last time about 5 years ago...
Please don't dig on me for buying the Dream Have always wanted one...

I really would like to get the Norton but only if I'm going to restore it. other wise the Man that owns it will not sell it he says that he will die with it. He will only will sell it to me for restoration to ride, I won't lie to him just to get it, strange I know..

Not STRANGE at all . When you see what some people do to motorcycles .Askim if hes got a spare engine laying around ,
I'll take it . ! :? . A big commitment compared to a Jap bike , a ' British Motorcycle .' . Love Hate relationship .

Ordinarily require a dedicated entusiast / expert operator . Not the kind of thing you take half measures with .
A bit like flying a Supermarine Spitfire , compared to driveing an Icecream truck . Differing personalities :| .

If the guy selling wants a total committment to selling for restoration only, i will guarantee that and ship it to NZ for that purpose onle
happy to give you my details to secure if you need that
Regards Mike

wow, you guys have it easy over the pond. youd pay at least twice that for a broken motor thats been sat in effluent for 30 years over here

Absolutely, buy it. I wish I could find deals like this! I dumped 4k (up to $10.5k with the rebuild just about finished) on my train wreck of a "runner". I wonder how much worse this one could really be, especially if it ran 5 years ago...

There are a number of us here, me included that would gladly buy it and restore it. I would buy it sight unseen if I knew it was complete and hadn't been run over by a dump truck. And FWIW, the Honda Dream is a cool project too. Don't fool yourself into taking on two projects at once unless you have the resources to pull it off. I have to admit, that a MkIII is not my preferred Norton. I like the right side shifting, kick starting thing, but others would kill to get their hands on one. You should think about that a bit too.

Well, FWIW I just bought another '75 850 MK3 with a busted left hand crank case for more than what your talking about. I'll use my High School Motto here--GO FOR IT !! and welcome to the forum, lots of good people and help on these threads. Cj
