DIY fun

Could you put it together without the shop manual or parts diagram?

I finally got the hang of it after about the 8th one...

Easy, been years since I even looked in my manual and the last motor/gearbox I put together for a mate didn't use the manual at all, it sort of comes natural after a few times.

Very easy to put that together
Hoping that the crank flywheel has been marked

Even that is not always a problem. I had a basket case with the crank apart and no marking. But the staining on the surfaces where they met made it very clear how it went together. Obviously, I would prefer them marked and do mark them myself.

You will know a crank that I have assembled, it will have 3 "V" stamps on the top of the narrowed section of the flywheel, pointing in the direction of rotation. Also all but one engine I assembled will have "BAB" and the date, stamped on the flat pad below the right crankcase bulge.

Back in the day I had a guy bring me a MKIII in a few boxes and an ice chest. He asked if I could put it back together for him. I said yes and gave him a flat rate because the shop rate in hours would have been wicked expensive. I would work on it when things were slow or when I was between jobs. As I recall the transmission was not stripped and there were two parts missing. I pulled what I needed from our used parts stock. I remember that they guy told me that "he had done the hard part taking it to bits."

When I purchased my 750 the owner whipped off the tarp covering it and said "I'll bet you don't know what that is?" referring to the sad looking Commando sitting there. I said "not only do I know what it is but I know every piece on it."
