I just recently bought a set of digital speedo and tach from Tom Kullen and have installed them over this weekend.
They look great and the tach works but not the speedo.
They both do the needle sweep, they both light up.
The tach was already calibrated but the speedo won't run.
I was able to enter the calculations into the speedo but when started the needle won't budge.
I either have a bad sensor or maybe my calculations were wrong.
I'll call Tom later today to see what he has to say but thought maybe Jerry could offer some help as he is the one who inspired me to buy this nice upgrade.

I did the setup using the calcs of 81" tire rotation divided by 63360 to get 782.22. Then the number of times the speedo drive turns in relation the the rear wheel and that was 7.5 divided by 6= 1.25.
mulitplied by 782.22 gave me 977.775. I entered that into the speedo.
It won't budge the needle.

Jerry, what were your figures when you did yours.
Maybe I have a bad sensor.
Any thoughts from anyone would be great.
Thanks, Guido

I am not Jerry, but I would think your numbers seem ok, but even if they were not, it would still work, just not accurately.
Bad sensor seem more likely or not wired up correctly.
The light coming on and the needle initializing simply means you have power to the unit, but the sensor hookup is something else. Just saying that it is something to double check.
I do not have the spreedo(yet) but I do have the tach.

I just put my drill on the sensor and it does nothing.
I'll call Tom today to see what if anything I have done wrong.
Nice gauges though.

As soon as I get it working I will be calibrating it on a mile marker.
Just wanted to start in the shop just to see if it was working.

Which sensor are you using? I just put the Speedo on my bike this weekend, and I'm using the M8 Reed Switch sender. It took me a bit to get the wiring sorted out, but not too bad considering how bad I am at electronics! After doing the setup, mine is working flawlessly. I can't remember offhand, but i think the number I put into mine was 852. The number that it was preprogrammed with wouldn't get it to budge. I think that is because it was entered as : "0XXX0". I initially tried entering mine as "0852" and it didn't budge, then I tried "00852" and it worked great!

I'm using the Hall effect sensor. I entered a value of:
81" divided by 63360 which gave me a value of 782.22
Multiplied by 1.25 gave me a value of 977.77
So that is what I entered, 97777

Maybe that is what I did wrong.
If someone else has the Hall sensor, tell me what you entered and I will try that.
Otherwise Tom is going to send me out another sensor.

How would I test the sensor? ohm meter?

Try "00978"

Hi Pete, I have a digital tacho as you, it is fitted on my norton, but I do not have started her still, they said it is allready calibrated, but was it for a waisted spark ( I have the Pazon Altair) or a conventionnal ignition ????

I re-entered the new # of 000978 and now it works. I will call Tom and tell him all is ok and see if he can redo my calcs and get me a better value to enter but for now I am stoked.
Thanks Pete for all your input.
Today I will try to do a calibration using mile markers without getting my self run over by big rigs.
So nice to have steady clocks. It's been decades with bad clocks.

The tach is pre set for a 2 cylinder so you should be fine as is. I have a tri spark which is a wasted spark system I think and mine worked right out of the box with no need to calibrate as I tested mine yesterday against a engine analyzer.

The Altair is a wasted spark system. The gray wire of the Altair ignition module should connect to the white and black wire (ecu). Or you can connect the red and blue wire from the tach to the coil feed, black wire, from the ignition modual.

Still working on my install of both new eGauges. I got the magnet sensor kit so I could 'recycle' the old speedo drive.

I did have one inspired moment for where to install the speedo toggle switch.
None of my three indicator light work anyway, so I tossed the one closest to the speedo for:

Digital clocks

Digital clocks

That switch is to cycle between odometer and miles.
I used the top button on my right switch gear to cycle and setup mine.
The button didn't go to anything. I never knew why that button wasn't used or what it was supposed to be used for.

Good choice for the toggle switch!
My original switch clusters are in the old parts bin. Got a new left switch from CNW.
My new 'trip meter' will serve as pseudo fuel guage.
