This is the semi western handlebar from Andover Norton. Bike came in parts with a Roadster handlebar.
This is the best pic showing the throttle.
It is a Amal replica as far as I remember. Used on many british bikes.
I had to add indicators at the handlebar ends for German TÜV. I switched to some almost invisible LED blinkers meanwhile. Seat is now an original 1970 one.

.. nice bike.. congrats!
what is the difference between the roadster handlebars and the semi-western one?
.. I thought that the semi-western from Andover was smaller..

the throttle seems the same as the roadster one..

For those of you who would swap out the 71 and newer bikes headers for the S type, the 71 and newer bikes have a larger front mudguard and stays (and bridge) to accommodate a larger tire than the 70's 300-19. What this means is under hard braking, the front mudguard can foul in the S pipes and be a cause for no steering in that situation. I would not recommend it unless your'e on for some real excitement in that moment of terror. Those front mudguards and stays are rare as hen's teeth.

And yes the early yokes have the threaded holes underneath for the halo headlamp mount, easy enough to tell.

Rivera has the right info on the handlebar switch. I have my original handlebars and they are somewhat larger than the ones I got from Walridge which I think are similar to Andover or may even be Andover.

I recall you had a picture showing the original handlebars over the repros mounted on your bike.. can you show it again?

Here is a shot of my bike first time out of storage since 1985. Original minus the horn button.

This might give you an idea of what the original semi Western bar looks like mounted

Thanks: I love the look of the original handlebar.. it is a pity that it is not produced anymore..

I agree. It has a nice sweep to it. I actually just ordered Euro bars for mine as finding a brake cable sans switch is a chore for the semi-western bars. So until I can source an adequate cable the semi westerns will be off my bike.

Well, I got a cable without brake switch also from Andover. Three weeks after completion I had a crash because of that switch.
It got blocked behind the lamp housing and all those cables. Did not notice it on a normal road but instantly on a gravel road....

I mounted a micro brake switch under the hand brake lever

Uli, have you got a link for the switchless brake cable??? I haven't been able to find one anywhere suitable for semi Western.

Some cables had an in-line switch that triggered the brake light when pulled. This switch caused all kinds of problems see Rivera's post above. Squishy brakes, etc...

Here's that pic of the original bars which are slightly bent on the right I think, compared to the Walridge bars. I like the look of the originals better. I always wanted to put a switch on the brake handle or front brake assembly, I hated that sponge of a switch in the original front brake
cable.

Dunno if this warrants a separate thread or not, but is there a reasonably close western bar out there somewhere? The "US" bars that are sold for Commandos are a couple inches lower than the one my '74 came with and I'd dearly like to have it back to that height. What I have is higher than a Euro bar but lower than the one I had (bent in a crash :()

I personally like the look of the semi-westerns mounted on the Bonneville T120r.. do you think they are about the same as those used on the Commandos?

Hi.
137xxx cannot be a S.
137xxx could be also a Fastback.
As Les said the last S was 135xxx.
Other differences between Roadster and S could be:
-S has the chromed filter plate, silver painted the Roadster;
-S has the metalflake painted rear tale light, black painted the Roadster.
But the great difference is that 137xxx is not a S.
Ask to the NOC Records, they know.

here I am posting some details of the bike in the hope it may help to spot if it is an 'S' or a normal 'Roadster' type.. (btw originally it had the headlamp halo, but I am not sure this was added by the former owners)

As Les said, the yokes are 1971, and 137xxx is a 1970 type that has the early yokes.
Even if 137xxx is a Roadster or a Fastback cannot have the later yokes.
