I am thinking about disassembling my 850 motor in the spring and having the crankshaft reworked to eliminate the runout. I will be in the US for approximately 2 months (may/Jun) and could bring the CS with me. Is there a recommended shop that specializes in Norton cranks that could inspect/remachine/eliminate any runout?

The crank has .007 runout at the alternator end. Although it has no apparent ill effect in operation, it has to be harder on bearings than it would be with 0 runout. I would like to have it trued/balanced. I am quite familiar with balancing engines and I realize that all the associated rotating parts have to accompany the crank.

So who does this sort of stuff on a Commando?

.002" I'm told is good enough to race on and if Jim can't straighten up give Marine Crankshafts in Calif. a ping as they saved Peel crank with about double .007" wobble after the nitride on new crank. After Peel's '05 stuck throttle event run out was 1/8" DS, 1/16" TS - so with nothing to loose ran her another hard 2000 miles though limited to 110 mph w/o wheelie power with the huge winter screen and hard bags on d/t power lost that prior pushed the combo over 125 eagerly - to find on final tear down crank self corrected to ~1/16" DS, ~1/32" TS but stayed sealed and could of just settled for ordinary performance and would of, except for the miracle of the tri-links crying for 3x's the power. I could not feel any vibration sense annoyance even with crank so screwed up. Interestingly, the over rev took out the cam tensioner and cracked off the oil pump snout so likely the power loss was mainly d/t loss of ignition timming stability so quit pulling harder after 4900-5000 rpm, which is where Peel woke up teasing the surprised sports bikers prior.
