A bit of an obscure question. First some background. I have a mk3 crank that looks to have spun its big end shells. I sent it off to mile high for a grind along with a mk2 crank. They were a bit careless with the mk3 crank, both halves came back with damaged threads. On the drive side pretty bad. The mk2 looked great. This is just a comment and not the reason for the post. I recall seeing posts in the past reporting similar experiences. I know that cnw uses them, so they obviously are familiar with Norton cranks and I know others recomend them. Based on my experience I'm afraid I can't.
Anyway, back to my question. Before reassembling the mk3 I cleaned the sludge traps and saw that the timing side gallery hole was totally blocked. Likely the cause of the seize. Once I had cleaned it up I noticed that the oil way as it enters the sludge trap is round, like it was drilled. All the other cranks I've looked at have a larger slotted hole. This was very much a bitsa bike, so I'm wondering if the crank half is original or maybe from a different model. Any thoughts?
Btw, I'm going to try out Marine crankshaft in orange county for the next pair of cranks. Will give some feedback if anyone is interested.
