couple of quick questions on my 72

I just took out the friction plates and separated them because they were stuck together. but when i put them back in and put it in gear and pulled the clutch the tire still did not spin...??

couple of quick questions on my 72

also how do i get the carb off from the manifold, I believe that i need to replace the o-ring in there but when I unscrew it it hits the tickler and will not come off

yea.. i don't know what a code is

First you must open an account and upload the photos (from your computer) to a photo hosting website such as Photobucket: http://photobucket.com/ ( a basic account is free)

Once the photos have been uploaded, each individual photo will then have a selection of codes.

It's the complete "IMG code" of each photo which then has to be copied and pasted into your forum message.

Andrew try letting OUT the clutch and the tire should spin ,also carb to manifild nuts are sensitive to overtightening and you could warp the carb body. Just a heads up. Do you have a manual ?

Clutch may need further adjustment.

Unscrew the nuts and pull the carb back, unscrew some more, pull back carb more.

It's easier if the manifolds are unbolted from the cylinder head with the carbs attached, and then each carb can be separated from its manifold.

Yes and you have to have the right modified allen wrench to do this.

'Cmon Dave, tell him he has to shorten the short side of the wrench so he can get the Allens out. It's a special Norton tool we all have.

I actually don't have it, I used a ball-end allen but as you posted once, it only works when you have the air filter off. I feel a new thread coming on...

I actually did saw off the end of one of my allens but it is still such a pain that I was trying to avoid it... guess i can't :(
and no I mean when the bike is off and i roll it in gear with the clutch in it still won't

For some reason my neighbor had a properly shortened wrench that I borrowed. Its easier to remove the manifolds with the carbs attached?
I am also waiting to hear the results of the clutch plates.

No need to separate carbs from manifolds ,just slip, swear and grumble with the shortened allen key.

Andrew,

Read Mike M's post above. If you can't clear the clutch on the first or second try by pulling it in and kicking through, I would strongly advise a new set of friction plates. They're cheap.

Check to see if the clutch pushrod is lifting the diaphram spring when you pull in the clutch lever. It's possible your clutch operating lever in the gearbox dropped out of alignment with the steel ball that pushes on the clutch push rod. How does the clutch pull feel? Look inside the gearbox after removing the inspection cover.
