The last two presidents winning the presidency while losing the popular vote, Shrub Bush and Trump, have performed poorly with disasters. Bush with hurricane Katrina and now Trump. Both were failed business men, too.

Time for the voter to decide the presidency, not an antiquated electoral college. The electoral voters (electors) are not bound by the results within their state. In other words, the electors can put someone in the White House who loses not only the popular vote, but loses the electoral majority, too.

Not only are some hospitals overwhelmed with COVID-19 patients, the lack of revenue from surgeries postponed is pinching some. Some hospitals have even laid off personnel. I would imagine those hospitals in areas with little or no CORONAVIRUS, but have state wide shelter in place edicts, have seen a large drop in patients.

JimC: what is currently happening with billing for Covid cases? Did free treatment actual implement? Are insured folks getting co pay charges and are their insurance being billed?

I’m not sure. A news source, don’t remember who, reported layoffs at some hospitals.

For those of you who decry politicians and are happy we have a "businessman" at the helm, Trump has done next to nothing non-politically motivated since he announced his candidacy. We have a true businessman at the helm in Illinois and he and a few other governors are doing more to stop the spread of the virus than Trump and his "heroes" ever will.

I ve been thinking the same actually. The models used for prediction have huge margins of error as there are too many variables without good estimates. Basically garbage in garbage out. Yes its best to err on side of caution, over estimate impact to help ensure robust response. I just can't grapple with 100k forecasted death in US when seeing 10k+ in first month. I think it should peter out before those figures happen, as some major pop centers are starting to peak now. Hope im not wrong.

That is a complicated question.
I believe insurance will cover MOST related costs.
The uninsured will most likely be billed for treatment, on a case to case basis.
I believe there are provisions in the CARES act to reimburse hospitals for COVID related treatment expenses for the uninsured, at a lower rate.

I don't think the specifics have been worked out. It is still VERY difficult to get tested unless you are an athlete, celebrity or politician.

In Australia our government is trying to provide rent relief for people who are struggling. Some are refusing to pay their rent. Paying rent is only unfair when other people live on cruise ships and trickle their wealth down elsewhere. Most landlords are not responsible for the way their tenants vote in elections. When people swallow politicians' bullshit at face value, they often do themselves in.
 
The daily Whitehouse Coronavirus briefing is broadcast on the BBC news channel each day (not sure why) but we managed to catch it today - it was incredible, incredible - absolutely incredible....
My wife said “did I hear that right - he just said the WHO had a different interpretation to him, and they were wrong, he was right. And as a punishment for disagreeing with him, he is going to stop their funding”
I said - it’s one interpretation of what the President said
Reply....there was no friggin interpretation needed, it was bloody clear!

Many news outlets here have stopped covering these "briefings" out of public health concern...
 
So where does this end ? Is Trump really trying to be the nations MD, a dispenser of advice that would save all but the partisan disbelievers?

And now that waste of space temp head of the navy has stepped down/been forced to quit.
Guess his press coverage from this leaked address to the crew and his subsequent non-apology was competing with trump's daily rally/briefing ratings.

After all he was only trying to protect his crew- what was wrong with that?

For the senators who made impeachment a matter of partisan loyalty
rather than a question of the rule of law, yes I can see how interest overrides such niceties as Trump tweeting against a witness as she was giving evidence ! Truly shocking .

But what of the American public, many of whom are going to die from covid. One thinks of Thomas Carlyle ' the public so many millions mostly fools'
