My bike has a Dunlop front rim and a Jones WM2 19" rear rim.

Did Norton ever use Jones rims? I though they were mainly used on BSAs, and that Norton used Dunlops (exclusively??). Is it likely that Norton would have used different manufacturer rims on the same bike?

I suspect my bike had a replacement rear rim laced onto the hub at some point. What do you think?

I think that you're correct. Which model is it by the way ?

In pre-AMC days, customers (especially overseas importers) could and did specify variations (often things like Bosch magnetos etc) but I can't imagine that a machine would have left the factory with rims of different makes.

Thanks for your answer.

My bike is a '73 850 Roadster.

I just bought a Dunlop rim, so I'll get the wheel rebuilt so that it is all Dunlop rims, as I am fairly sure that was what Nortons used originally.

I believe we have had this question before, relatively recently in fact. I have a Mk 2A with a Jones rim on the rear. As far as I can tell it's the original.

My '74 850 has a Jones rim on the rear as well. I also believe it's original. I don't recall anyone having trouble of any sort so there must have been (naturally) a type of standard that applied, no matter who the jobber was.

This has been discussed many times. Yes, there were a lot of stock Jones rear rims, especially in 74 it seems.
