Depends whether you want to ride it or polish it and hang out in places where people are going to compliment you on your bike. After all the good bits I've fitted to mine to make it a fabulous road bike, I still have the original bits laying around in boxes if i ever want to glue them back on to make it "original". Personally, I'd rather just ride it. See ya, I'm off for a ride.

Prices in Oz are fairly steep, about $5,000 for a basketcase and somewhere over $10,000 for a tidy runner. This can vary. Top restos will now fetch $25,000 or so. US and Aussie dollars are now at about parity. I'll be in the US in the next couple of years to source a nice clean Fastback that's for sure. And laugh at what I'll pay for it.

That probably explains why lots of the classic bikes here go to Aussie. Nearly every Ducati I have seen on Trade Me has headed West in the last year.
I bought my Ducati Darmah in NSW for $2700 in 1986....when here in NZ they were 6K plus...if you could find one.
Heres one that sold recently....note odd spelling

and another less flash one...

Back from my ride. Got in early before the heat comes because it's going to be 39 C here today. Considering all the work done that MK3 would be very good buying here in Oz. Even the S would be cheap, even with its' downsides. Ah, the Darmah. Great bike. Australia was always a big market for Dukes and the Darmah was very popular here and rightly so. I bought a new 860 GTS in '77 and would have waited if I'd known the Darmah was coming soon after.

Here is one ending today, being sold by one of our members (norbsa) and the price is about the same as a new head!

It is a pretty tempting package. The numbers will not match the frame!

FWIW I paid $4000 for my "73 850 Interstate last summer, about 90% restored, frame and engine numbers match, w/ fresh paint, new tires, etc...bike #9 (and Commando #2) and the first I'm sure I'll never sell
price was definitely good but may be about right these days as this local ''72 http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/mcy/2157800763.html has been listed repeatedly and not sold at $5K, have not checked it out in person though.
