Anyone know if a complete 750 taillight assembly will just bolt right onto the 850 mudguard?
I rather like the more rounded style on the 750's versus the later squarish looking jobbie.

Thanks Horton for the speedy reply posting, doesnt
sound too difficult a job. cheers Teddy Boy

I've replaced a couple of the tail light housing on my 72 Commando. Eventually gave up on the stock ones. They always cracked in the cutout for the fender hoop. Finally went with the Old Britts tail light. http://www.oldbritts.com/17_100030.html Classy looking and it's metal! If you want it shiny you'll have to do it yourself. Get the signal light brackets and the small signal lights and your rear end will look great.

Hi Jim, thanks for that great tip. I did see Old Britts custom jobbie , and indeed it does look great. If it comes stock in black, thats fine with me.Cheers Teddy Boy

I replaced the taillight housing on my 850 Commando with the housing from Old Britts. I think it looks much cleaner than the stock housing. Here are some photos of it:

Thats a nice looking tail light assembly.
ive just fitted a new pattern standard one from RGM motors in UK & I needed to file it down to fit properly but when I tightened it up sure enough it cracked & its now loose.
I will have to put tie wraps on it to keep it secure.
The one in the photo above looks much sturdier.
Ive had my commando from new (March 1973) so wanted to keep it fairly original.
There is a Big Norton Owners Club Meeting at Donnington Park Race track in June 2009. Every Norton Owner will be welcome.
If your in the UK it will be a good weekend. See Norton Owners Clib web site for details.

I put a early 750 tail light (known as the Beehive) on my Mk 2 850. It was a pattern fibreglass thing made in Taiwan or India. It's crap. If you use a genuine Lucas Beehive, you need the upright bracket, as the 750 bolt positions are different and it will sag down.

These pattern copies have bad wiring, the earth wire was useless, I ended up fitting my original 850 bulb holder with its solid earth point and fitting proper gauge DC wires so I at least had a relaible tailight.

I also ended up extensively modifying the pattern part, it cracked, flopped around and generally was a pain. It needs rubber grommets on the 2 lower side mount studs and reinforced expoxy on the upper mount to get it central and symetrical to the mudguard. I have now literally remade it and it looks OK, but otherwise more trouble than it was worth.
