I'm looking for a part number for the inner shaft to gear seal...

Also should the seal lip face in or out the one 1 took out faced out I would think it would be lip in

Was getting excited, to go 1up 4 down until I realized the seal kit has every seal except this one

This is for a Quaife 5-speed gearbox isn't it as "inner shaft to gear seal" doesn't sound like a standard gearbox seal?

Yes...
But as I'm going, I'm also realizing the sleeve gear bushings has cross hatch oil galleys 2 directions from out to in...
My AMC sleeve gear has solid bushings
2 with space between. I do not know if it will push oil out the shaft..
My splines run thru the seal
Might have to change to solid bushings...

Maybe some one here, has run into this before... My biggest concern right now is the bushings in the quaife sleeve gear, pushing gear oil out beyond the shaft

I have suggested before that you contact Mick Hemmings with Quaife questions. It is hard to think of anyone else better qualified to help you. Did you try that?

He most likely has the seal you need on the shelf.

There are several reasons to use a seal in this application, many Quaife boxes using in racing do not have a closed/sealed primary cover. If you are running a closed cover it may not be so important.

It faces inwards toward the gearbox so from the sprocket side it is flat. I looked at a photo of my bike but can,t quite make out a part number, looks something like 28-26-4 but o.d. must be more.
The seal runs on a bush or shaft next to the splines, not on the splines like in your photo, that won,t work!
Could try Mick Hemmings or Quaiffe as advised by others, it is light green on my bike.

It came with the Quaiffe cluster from Mick Hemmings in 2011, complete with mickey mouse instructions, a poorly photocopied mix of basic hand drawn sketches on top of badly printed pages, some of which were cut off. The seal you need wasn,t even mentioned and I had to call him to ask where it fitted.
Not bad for a £1541.00 specialist product and I ended up using the excellent Old Brits? gearbox assembly tutorial and got it all sorted properly.
Well worth it in the end, great mod for a road bike but left side, one down, four up much better.

Agreed...
I sent several emails to Angie about acquiring a Dominator main shaft & now a seal also... I will get in contact with someone this coming week.....
I was unaware that the commando gearbox did not have the inner seal

But the wisdom I am gaining in this build in invaluable as my avitar let's you know where I started.....

So it would be nice if I could talk to Mick
But anybody over there that deals with Quaife gearboxes would be helpful.....
I figured the seal was installed incorrect, but my main concern now is the inner shaft seal rest on the splines on the shorter dominator shaft, so hopefully we can connect this week & get the correct Dominator main shaft

We live by the choices we make.....

Absolutely no doubt that Norman is fully knowledgeable regarding Quaife boxes. He made me a belt drive, great work and service, nice bloke.

But Mick actually still builds the Quaife boxes today. Quaife make parts and supply Mick.

Stick with it on the communication front, think phone. Angie and Mick are retired and working from home.
