One for the Brits - I live here in the US and my brother lives in the UK. He wants a Commando project to work on in his retirement and I was thinking of sourcing him one from here but my question to my fellow Brits is how much does a complete but crusty Commando project sell for in the UK?

I'd guess around £4000 £4500 up

the last one I was watching was a grubby but complete 850, it went for £3800, this was a couple of days ago. They fetch a lot of money over here. If you could collect several 'barn finds' in the US, it would be worth your (and your brother's) while to send them home.

In Australia, the best Commandos are imported from America.

Al there are a lot of good Commandos here in Aus that weren't imported from the US, but like any British bikes here in Aus the prices are getting out of control and sellers asking to much for them.

Only slightly off topic. What is the general cost and what is the procedure to import a bike to the UK from the US for a UK citizen. Lets say a barely running/riding 1974 commando (49 year old) that sold for $6000 and has a US title/registration but no other "official" documentation.

From shipping cars in 1998 & 2000 I know that port to port was much less than house to house but that's so long ago that I can't imagine now. I paid $800 from the terminal in Stuttgart to Balitmore in 1998 and $875 in 2000. One of the German seaports would have been a little less and from my German house to my US house was going to be more than double.

Home is not necessarily where you were born. Norton sent adoption papers with every Commando sent here.
The price on the ‘70 Roman Purple roadster for sale is pretty good so far and about what it would sell for here.

Thanks gents. Just checked with shipping from LA to Southampton - $1400!
Yorkie,
I would thought that it would be a lot more than that.Try looking at what it costs to ship one from LA to the east coast! The prices will shock you.
