Guys,

I am attempting to remove the lockring 06-5548 on the cush-drive (sprocket) side of the rear wheel of my Mk3. The manual describes the lockring as having a LH thread, and I am looking for confirmation of this. I 've tried combinations of heat, shock, and PB Blaster, and it will not budge. Any suggestions out there?

Your manual information is WRONG! It's RIGHT hand thread.

This error was apparently corrected in the later reprint of the MkIII manual, as my paper copy says "RIGHT HAND THREAD" and the MkIII copy manual on my Kim CD says: "LEFT HAND THREAD"

Here's a previous discussion on the same subject where we became aware of the discrepancy: http://accessnorton.com/post13227.html

Thanks, LAB

I'm using a pin wrench, but the handle is only 6 inches long. I've run a long bolt through the hub and compressed the wrench into the holes, but sadly, still no cigar. I'm soaking it overnight with PB Blaster, and will have another go at it tomorrow, applying a 2 ft pipe extension and more shock and heat. I'm using the Kim CD manual, which explains my confusion over the threading.

It's off. I bent the pins on the wrench, but succeeded with a drift, lots of heat, a PB Blaster soak, and counter-clockwise rotation. The lockring is actually reusable. Thanks for clearing up the thread issue.
