I just put a Shorai Lithium Iron battery in my Mark 3 a couple of days ago.
It's the 21 aH model, with a 305 Cold Cranking Amps rating. Plenty of juice.

Wow! When i hit the starter button, it seems like there's enough grunt to take the bike up to 30 mph in a heartbeat on the starter motor power alone.

Which got me thinking: maybe i could go the Toyota Prius route, and use this powerful battery to actually propel the bike, instead of simply using it to get the engine running on gas?

I could skip the complexity of a separate electric motor, and rig up some way to kill the gas mode via a switch, then i could hold in the starter button while in gear.

Should work, right?

World's first hybrid Commando. I could even file a patent application, provided I filed it on April 1st that is.

Any further suggestions for further refinement of the concept would be welcome.

Blasphemy! Hydrids are a passing fashion like pertol and batteries, I'm holding out for fuel cells just around the corner. In mean time highly suggest you do a fairly through search of Li dangers and Li and motorcycle and Li battery charging issues-failures. At least you did good by getting what otherwise might seem over kill size ah Li bat. With all that power wonder if ya'll have to beef up the drivetrain.

Someone in the UK has an all electric Norton, for quite some years now.
Apparently it goes very well.

Maybe someone knows where the link is ?

Has a full fairing, so the works are none too visible, seem to recall
Think it was a dominator - but could be corrected on this.

The way of the future - and its here now ?

cafe racer tv had a featherbed track bike with an electric motor... it would run for an hour

sustainable electric propulsion, like thermonuclear fusion, remains one of those mysteries I'm waiting for extraterrestrials bestow upon us.

The electric motor part is the future but not with batteries but with super capacitors and fuel cells, then will have enough juice to race back down instead of coast. By the time Peel get's going they may have installed fearless error free robo pilot that knows how to straight steer at speed on even faster lighter cycle. Hehehe Peel's may have to run non R plugs with copper leads to get on around it.

I've been meaning to post this but I've forgotten my photobucket password, (meansi need to take more pictures right), anyway the electric norton from Virginia just went coast to coast on It's own power. Story was in Rider magazine I think.
