Commando folklore (2017)

I know exactly what that is. It's the number "6"
I'll take three please.

You slip the big end over your index finger as a knuckle guard. Not needed on the later bike since only dumb knuckle-draggers still ride old kick-start bikes.

Seriously Wow !! In only two days over 1000 folks have viewed the posting which has got to be good for Access Norton. Some great ideas are coming of this too.

I particularly like, the ISO adjuster, the curry hook, helmet holder, and the stand spring hook. But hey are all good ideas, keep em coming - what's to lose ? I hope CNW Matt or the Jims are watching !!!

Top chuckles:

The part left over after a rebuild

6 (or 9)

Knuckle duster

However none are right yet.

I'm going to give some more info...

The exact measurements of the holes are 14mm and 6.25mm. The Cliff-hanger has to go the way it is in the photo, (you are looking at the back of it).

More clues tomorrow night (if it's not guessed by then).

Cheers,

cliffa.

Mounts on the left foot peg, utilizing a spring or elastic as a safety mechanism? I am aware of the spring on the market to prevent the brake lever from falling, too.

Or perhaps you've come up with a device to lock a pre-MkIII seat to the bike.

Ignition switch mount for pre-MkIII bikes missing original air boxes comes to mind, too, but I think the dimensions might be wrong for the switch.

If I'm correct please send it to Matt at CNW for polishing before having it sent to me.

It's a bull cinch. You shove the hook into one nostril, punch it through until ti comes out the other nostril and then drop the other end over a fence post. It's a cinch that bull ain't going anywhere.

Hi all, apologies, couldn't get on line on Saturday, as I was busy making sure all our servers and workstations at work were patched due to the NHS (et al) virus outbreak. Bring back the death penalty for virus coders I say. Across the planet more than a lifetimes worth of man hours have probably been wasted remediating this particular issue just this weekend. The unfortunate this is that organizations such as the NHS are more likely to succumb to this type of threat due to the lack of investment etc.

Anyway, few more details about the Cliff-hanger,

I guess most people now realize it's not for MK3's

in their replies four folks have mentioned the area in which this fits.

It will allow the fitting of a generic part which is easier to fit and adjust, and (I think) looks better that the Norton afterthought. Hope that helps.

Cheers,

cliffa

To hold the modern type of rear brake light switch instead of the big (for what it is) square block thing.

OK I've waited long enough. It replaces the outside inverted washer that's behind the seat hold down knob. Helmet hook or bungee hook. Multi function.

Obviously this is the early commando chassis dunsel component.

BINGO !!!

toppy gets the freeby
:D

You almost had it on your first guess.

P.M. me your address and I'll send you one asap.

So here's how it fits..

Just back off the rear adjuster a few turns until you can pull the outer cable back at the footrest bracket far enough to hook over the cliff_hanger (ideally with the switch already fitted, maybe half way down it's thread), *** Important*** make sure the reduced section of the ferrule will pass through the hanger, otherwise adjust with a file or drill so it does.

Then you have this..

Now take the spring which is normally supplied with these switches, hook it through the hole in the rod, then wrap it around the brake pedal and cut off the excess.

Re-route the wiring behind the side panel and connect, (you will probably have to change the connectors) then adjust the switch.

Next get rid of all this claptrap..

And this horrible bracket if you want.

Well I appreciate your effort however IMHO this switch including spring (not fitted yet on your picture) doesn't contribute to a cleaner look so I stick to the original tucked away switch :|

I have the same switch but I mounted my bracket to one of the foot peg bolts and not on the cable, works the same as yours, I replace my switch for a early Honda switch as the new replacement switches seem to fall apart as I replaced 2 in less than a year, not as good quility as the orginal switch.

made myself a bracket out of some old alloy corner stock to mount a UJM switch to my rearsets

Thank you Cliff i will send you my address but i must say it was great fun just trying to figure out what it was. I would by no means call myself an expert but i think i can recognise most Commando parts now. Well i have seen ALL the bits of mine on more than one occasion and seldom feel the need to read the manual. So its nice to have think whats that an where does it go.

Well, that was fun !

toppy, glad you enjoyed it, your stainless cliff-hanger will be in the post tomorrow.

There are some different type of switches available with the wires coming out at 90º which may improve the look a bit.

Cheers,

cliffa

Thank you Cliff for my prize which arrived yesterday it is very generous of you to spend your time money and effort to then give it away.
Once again thank you very much i was just pleased to be the one to figure out what the mystery object is.
