One of my INOA spies sent me this one that had the nerve to show itself.

Any guesses what purpose the two blue dryer vent hoses serve? Perhaps the lounge chair seat is air cooled. Forty years ago I don't believe that I would have thought that thing was cool. Tom

Huh I should ask these builders how much they cared about others popular sensible opinions. I've been asking illegal hi ape hanger riders if hard to handle they say no they don't really use the bars as all the action is from the hips, like Elvis The Pelvis lewdness too boot.

LOOK Ma ; No Brakes .

not quite sure whatd happen if ' we ' started a ' Commando Cafe Racer " fred . :?

Armpit dryers are legal in PA. Baby apes; had 'em on my Schwinn. 8) Full grown silverbacks on a mc; no thanks!

Anyone in a groovy mood and have a hankerin to buy a 16" rear rim and spokes to fit a norton rear drum? I have on available.

Ms Peel should end up looking like the white one above's stance with 16" meat but more airy like the alloy cafe'. I need rim with spokes aimed to fit a Water Buffalo hub not no Norton thankyou.

Not Quite a Chopper . Not quite a Commando either . But if you look in the lower right hand corner , that should be enough for a start .

Who's going to be first to try this new method of crankcase ventilation on a Commando?

Oh yes. A properly built Norton chopper is a good thing.

That sure looks like an old "hog" mixer behind those engines. It's one helluva a lot stronger than the Norton tranny.

Absolutely as everyone I've asked or read that got in the 100 hp torque range lost their AMC gear box.

When I rebuilt the original '64 mixer in my Panhead , I found that the main drive gear race (it had the old individual hand fit roller bearings) was a mere .0004" out of round & it was in the vertical, not horizontal that would indicate wear from loading.

I hammered the hell out of that tranny, cracking the frame around the transmission mount twice. The 70# 4.520" stroke flywheels where trying to pull the tranny out of the frame. I had to gusset the frame in both locations.

By installing Andrews close ratio 1st & 3rd gears, a hog mixer can be shifted quite smartly W/O un-twisting the wick. I had a guy following me once tell me that when I power-shifted into 2nd as I crossed an asphalt patch, the rear tire ripped a chunk of the patch out.

The later model cartridge type main drive gear bearings would fail when big inch power was feed through them with exuberance. Setting up the early style individual rollers in .0002" increments was time consuming but one could end up with less than .0005" clearance once the task was completed. The old pre-AMF mixers were superior as far as durability IMO.

This really has my brain chrning wondering IF an early (pre '65) Hog mixer could be mounted in the Isolastic mounts.

That would really make for a bullet proof Commando gearbox! There are 3 different low gear ratios & 2 different 3rd gear ratios readily available to tailor the gear spacing for the Norton power band.

Kenny Dreer managed to stuff an aftermarket Big Twin HD gearset (Baker 6-speed) into a custom gearcase and fit it behind his updated twin engine, but not in a stock Commando frame. It was in his own frame design (still using isolastics) that looked a bit like a Commando frame, but was built to accommodate his engine and transmission setup, as well as modern wide rim 17" wheels. You might be able to do something like that in a Commando frame, but if it's possible, it would take a lot of modification to the frame, including probably relocating the upper rear isolastic mount. I really doubt you could do it with a stock HD tranny.

This is a picture of Kenny's setup. You can see how different his iso setup is from a stock Commando.
