I am contemplating the purchase of a dedicated Commando book and the in the search function here, cannot find anybodies comments on Peter Henshaws, The Commando Bible. I am wavering between that and Matthew Vales, Norton Command, The Complete Story.
Which is considered more informative and detailed in content, particularly on the Mk3?
Thanks for any input. Leon

Both are reasonably interesting in their own way but I'd say neither of them goes into great detail and like many other Norton books they barely scratch the surface.

Henshaw's Commando Bible is perhaps the better of the two but does contain a few errors. Mick Duckworth's Norton Commando book is better in my opinion.

Are you looking for history or detailed parts and repair instructions

A new Commando restoration book by Chris Rooke is apparently "forthcoming" (for about a year now!) from Veloce Publishing.

The Chris Rooke book will be a broad brush guide, not a detailed blow by blow how to do it. Based on his own restoration and simply detailing the differences between models and options when doing the restoration. It should be ideal for those new to Commando's that have past restoration experience with other marques.
For a more detailed history of the Commando, there should be another publication soon, its been a long time coming.

Thanks for all the feedback. I am aware of Chris Rookes book coming along and already have his Triples one, due to an A75 and T150 in the shed. This is a useful addition to the library and an enjoyable read, as there is lots of anecdotal stuff.
For me Commando history and finer details, including good pictures would be my priority, as I already have good resources on the mechanical stuff.
Sounds like a two horse race with Duckworth out front and Henshaw behind him, unless there are other observations from folks?
