Understand what you are saying, I am still trying to get a grip on unleaded plug colour as I am use to the always black syndrome even on unleaded. Hence the recalibration of the VM34 and using settings that were recommended.
There is a post titled "Plug Color Diagnosis" where a picture is posted and one of the plugs is distinctly white and probably lean. My plugs are not white but light grey. I will try and get a few more miles up and then perhaps raise the needle one notch.
I'm not sure if I would be on the tapered part of the needle tho probably still on the parallel section so raising the needle may have no effect.
I think the cutaway may have more influence (just off idle to around 1/4 opening the pilot and cutaway have most influence and then cutaway through to 1/2 throttle with needle and needle jet)?

It's always a circular tuning exercise.
