This all started after fitting a new clutch the push rod that was fitted looked old and worn, I only have cable adjustment there is no other way I can adjust the clutch. will I have any problems if I was to cut about an inche from the centre of the rod .
This all a big learning curve for me as it seems as every thing I do to improve my old brit turns out to be a struggle.B eing born and bred on 70s jam multis as been a delight but then I saw the light and love my 500 single. where can I get a push rod the correct size for an AMC box?...........Thank you for taking the time to reply Gaz

drgaz,

I think you’ve stumped the panel.

Why is the stock pushrod too long?

Jason
Well the bikes built up of many different parts like its a 57 frame with a 54 motor and a 52 g/box so finding the right parts is a problem any how I have resolved the problem by cutting the new push rod to the correct length and then re hardend the tip by heating to cherry red and letting it cool job done !
next I have reconditioned the road holders and need to find out how much and of what grade of oil to use in them at present I have a quarter of a pint of ATF 10 grade and there not very good at all .

Sounds like and interesting project.
Dynodave's website http://www.gis.net/~dynodave/norton.htm might be useful for sorting out your clutch and forks, he also makes a nifty clutch pushrod seal.

The forks officially call for 150cc of 30wt fork oil each ~ what others put in there is a matter of preference.

Good luck.

Phil
