I have tried to stay away from the clutch rod seal thread but it is obviously time to make some comments
I did in fact buy the seal that Dave designed and had manufactured years ago
I also had questionable results using it over several years on my own builds. I was still finding oil in the clutch baskets on a regular basis on some machines. I could not figure out why and didn't do anything about it. It worked on others and I felt it was an improvement over not having anything at all. RGM also made a clutch rod seal at one time and I tried that as well without any luck. I don't think they offer it any longer
When it came time to consider all the parts that I wanted and needed for my electric start conversion and stand alone belt drive kit, it was important that I had a seal at the main shaft since I didn't want oil contaminating the clutch plates.
Using Dave's seal was not an option.
I took some time to determine what needed to be done to make a seal I would be happy with.
While similar to the one Dave has, it is not a copy. I am not going to spend time talking about the differences but if you put the two next to each other, you will clearly see how they are different in one respect as far as machining. Another machining difference is not easy to detect unless you know what you are looking for but it is important. It is also dimensionally different and made from 6061 billet rather than steel
So why not talk to Dave about my findings ? Fact is, I have personal issues with Dave and how he does business and I have no interest in working with him in any way. These are things that I wont bring up on a public board of course, so I will just leave it at that.
Believe me, I did not spend time and money to develop this seal thinking it was going to be a money maker. I did it because I needed it for other parts kits that I am offering. I also do sell it as a separate part as a way to pay for the development.
This is the only post I will make in regards to this. I just needed to share my side of the story
