Yes, if you replace one of the steel plates with the 3mm plate then, hopefully, it will lighten the clutch action but not enough that the clutch begins to slip.
New friction & steel plates fitted (and using a 3mm disc) to achieve no clearance between circlip & diaphram... clearances set & wow!!! the lever can be easily operated with two fingers
