Should there be any side to side movement of clutch basket? I've installed new bearing and new center hub. Nut is tight and basket still has movement. Just want to know if I should now look further into trans for wear problems. Bike is 1971 commando.

Is the bearing the proper low clearance AN 060750 part, or is it a standard clearance bearing?

Steven, There needs to be some play on the clutch chainwheel. This is a little difficult to define, but if you have the correct bearing, circlip, shim stack and mainshaft circlip all in good order and the centre nut tightened up, by holding opposite sides of the chainwheel with your fingers, a small amount of opposite rock inward and outward, i,e, right side in left side out is suitable. If this was dead tight, the chainwheel would probably seize. If the chainwheel moves in and out by any appreciable amount possibly your shim stack is too small.

The bearing came from old britts. I've just never worked on another norton so I didn't know if this thing was suppose to move at all. It doesn't have much play but I knew someone here would help me out. I've thought about a belt drive system but that will have to wait till money is better.
