Are they good? Anyone with experience with their Yuasa for $67? He's looking into what the battery type is, I'm not sure, but for a name brand battery it's a good price unless I go for a unbranded one. Will it fit in the 69/70 6" space across the frame instead of parallel to the frame? I can get an unbranded one AGM for about $50. Not a big price difference to me.

DogT, Peel is on a diet, can ya sell me on the why of Clubman's battery you found.
Wt, size, amp/hr?

Well, I looked for batteries in general, Swooshdave linked me to one, an AGM I think. But most of them are off brand, and Clubman is selling the Yuasa 8A 6" x 3.5" x 4.25" for $67, well in the ball park for a branded battery. The tray in my 69 is exactly 6" wide, I can just get a 6" steel ruler in it, not loose, so I'm a bit concerned about the fit. I'm still not certain of the chemistry of Clubman's battery, but he assured me it won't leak.

bottom of the page.

I guess the electrics of my 40 year old original parts are not up to snuff, it won't start without a battery any more, but starts charging at about 2500 rpm, so it couldn't be too bad and it started on second kick with the battery. Not worth the Sparx yet. Running with my original AAU, original Lucas points, capacitors and 12V coils. Not bad, eh. I'm sure EI would help too, but right now it seems to be running strong.

I've bought quite a bit of stuff from Frank at Clubman. Never a problem. His prices usually are very competitive. Eventually, I had a falling out with him. He wanted to express his political ideology to me. He's to the right of Attila the Hun. I'm not.

Here's some pages from the Yuasa site. The first one includes an index of the nomenclature. Once you have that down you can search the second to get the dimensions and location of the posts by clicking 'specs'. With the numbers you can walk into any bike shop and usually get one off the shelf or get it in a few days, no shipping.
P.S. Dave, congrats on your bike. It's a beaut. There'll be no keeping you down on the farm now that you've got those wheels. :D

I didn't get the battery number from Frank, but I am supposing it is an AGM, VRLA type. He said it wasn't a gel cell. If it is AGM, it sounds from this article that it should be a good M/C battery. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VRLA_battery

Jim, Yes, I went to a dentist one time and he started pushing John Birch fliers at me. Talk about right of Attila. Last time I went there.

Funny you should mention dentists. I went to an endodontist recently for a root canal. Once he had his whole toolbox in my mouth he started bitching about union auto workers making too much money. Of course, he didn't bitch about my union pension paying him $1000 for his hour of work. Last time that prick will ever get any of my money.

I have been buying gelcell batteries that last for 4-5 years under constant trickle charge for the past 2 decades. They cost about 100 bucks these days.

This is what Ms Peel ran and likely will again.

That looks like a good diet, Steve, and the price is right too. I don't know why I went with such a big battery now that I think about it, it's not like I'm going to be riding at night, although I will ride with the pilot light on all the time. Now if I can figure out why my front brake switch isn't working.
