" Joe Scalzo's colourfull proze is worth the cover price along, but his exotic tale of of Los Angeles role in American racing is so varied and well illustrated . . . "

Hobot and this guy had the same teacher for English Literature , gets to the bones of the subject . Here not a lot of engineering specifics ( detailed specs ) but a general overview of the formative characters .

" "City of Speed" traces Southern California's racers and speed merchants from the early days of hopped-up Model Ts to todays performance supercars and tomorrows phenomena, a trend that has spread world-wide. With details of race shops, speed parts companies, racers, millionaire sportsmen, hot rod artists and fabricators, and the myriad tracks, bars, clubs, and meets where performance car history happens . "

Not plugging it , but worth a mention as the general engineering philoshies are from the same era / context as our fine machineary / motorcycles . M.S.

A bit late for me Matt but I did tap into the Calif. Over The Hill Gang hot rod tech for vapor fuels around the time lead was taken out of pump gas so octane suffered.

Broaden youre outlook , young man , theres a few characters and a wealth of information in there . Or all characters and a glimpse of the philosophies / approach to further faster better stronger oops . to far .

i tapped into the Calif. tech of the later 70's when the hi test ethyl lead was phased out so the hot rods, on land or water, switched to propane and built V8 with the Over The Hill Gang vapor fuel stuff.
