I'm in the last steps of restoring my 1969 Commando Dunstall and I can't figure out where the choke lever was placed. Dunstall modified the lever and relocated it somewhere on the frame. Any idea or pictures?

If you still retain the top steering yoke, you can cut up a short piece of old handlebar and mount the choke between the two clamps with a couple of bar end plugs to neaten things up. The other option is to get a choke lever for 1" bars and mount it on the frame rail that comes from the backbone down to the rear isolastic mount.

I'm not sure if they did the earlier bikes the same, but on the later Dunstall Commandos the choke lever was mounted on a tube clamped in the original handlebar mounts, similar to what dave suggested.

So I was digging around and found a box of old documents and pictures of the old Dunstall. The pictures were taken when it was disassembled in 1981. On the earlier Dunstalls the choke lever was modified and mounted on the frame. See picture of my Dunstall.

Yes that is what I was refering to, although it is easier to access from the front of those two frame tubes, however it will have to be a lever for 1" handlebars, as the standard 7/8" lever will not fit the fame tubes.

Dave, there is a handwritten tag attached to the choke lever and reads "mounts to frame modified by Dunstall"

Fits the downtube. Thx!

Shamrock, those choke levers for 1" bars were available at one time, they may still be. I had one fitted on the frame rail of my Dunstall replica, although I do have to say that the cable routing is more challenging in this configuration.

hey hows that rebuild goin'? sold the 850 Dunstall.

Where would one find a correct 7/8 strap for the lever? I have one that mounts with the hand control and would like to relocate it in one of these fashions.

I told you that

The one I used was definitely not dremelled, it was manufactured in one inch size, I think I may still have it somewhere.
