Any feedback on the big pinned cam chain and starter chain will be useful.

I have never really recommended it for the cam drive as the standard iwis works well
but the arguments regarding timing look good. With the starter I know it works but any
comments are good.

I dont have a Commando so rely on feedback so any comments regarding fitting, noise
,wear and indeed even the look would be good.

Andy,
Gave details about fitting the chain on an Alton starter system in a previous thread. However am unable to give information about the chain in use because the first time I had a good ride on the bike the alternator stator failed. Alton sent me a new stator and rotor and I fitted them both, although I think that the original rotor was fine. Unfortunately the starter motor then failed, but I kickstarted it to check that the alternator was working and it was. Am waiting and waiting for a substantive reply from Alton about the motor, didn't want to be pulling it apart without their say so but looks like I may have to.
Sorry if this seems to be a little off thread, but I am getting vey frustrated with it, and it is why I cannot give you an update on the chain.

At least the chain didnt fail.

Sorry to hear about your problems.

I expect they will be at Stafford Show in a couple of weeks.

Having a chain would be nice,is there a way to purchase a drive chain without all the secret squirrel stuff.
Some form of communication medium where you get a reply, pay for one and the postie drops it off,old school like. :?:

Andy,
My Brother and I installed the heavy duty chains on our bikes and plan on putting roughly 5000 miles on them in the next three weeks. I will be measuring mine for wear when we return. Jim

Time warp go to my web site, just google The Chain Man.

I do offer postal service indeed I send chains all over the world.

I offer iwis rear chain for Commandos and they are very received, read old
Road Holder mags. The problem is simple, a lot of people have jumped to 520
and iwis do not make 520. This jump has mainly been caused by the wrong chain
being purchased. ASA and Jap chains are wider than the 10B-1 used by Norton.

In UK where the iwis is readily available from both myself and Jane at Sprockets
Unlimited it is not a problem. In USA, Australia and even parts of Europe it is not
so easy. You may be able to buy 10B-1 from bearing distributors but the quality may
not be good enough for the use. Most industrial clients just want DIN and this is a minimum
standard. Iwis is typically 1/3 above DIN. I have even posted chains back into Germany where
iwis is made :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

If you need advice I am here also if you need chain I am here, the typical cost of a good chain
is £42-45 depending if it has an odd or even number of links. Post to USA is around £15-20.

I have always tried to take the "Black Magic" out of chain it is a question of knowledge.
