Chain Length

How many segments of standard 530 chain are needed to run between a 21 counter and a 42 rear? I'm guessing 105/106 ?

Probable 99. Maybe 100.

Just went through this. Mine was a 100 links. My old chain was 98 so I cut the new one the same and it was 1/8" too short with the adjusters all the way in. The old one was really stretched. Had to add a rivet link. The adjusters are almost all the way with out with 100, so I will remove the rivet link as the chain stretches past the adjusyer limit. I would lay the new chain out over the sprockets and check to make sure. Don't repeat my mistake.

I've never ordered a chain with the supposed correct number of links or simply cut it after counting links. I just get a chain with too many (Renold, my good man) and put it on the sprockets on the bike with the adjusters at the minimum and see where it falls. Fail safe! At least for me.

100 links for 22/42. I have two RK heavy 100 links from Old Britts and keep one cleaned/oiled and ready to switch out. $28 each.
