Cleaned it out last night. At first it looked like just water coming out, then the oil. The oil looked like chicken fat that floats on the top of cold chicken soup. The catch bottle had not been checked in about 1000 miles or so. Total was about 1.5 ounces of material. About 10% was oil. The rest was water quote]

Never seen anything like that, ever. Maybe blowby with crap fuel ?

I think its more likely to be oil mixing with the condensation in the breather pipe, the breather will never get hot enough to drive off any moisture thats sitting in there. You will find the same mayonnaise type stuff in your primary and timing cases if you only use your bike for short runs where is engine never gets up to full temp.

What I get out of my catch bottle is just oil. Certainly isn't frothy.

Found an area where I could slip an hose clamp between the engine cradle & engine case.
Catch bottles?

Purchased a Aluminium Go Cart Overflow Catch Can on E-Bay. Put aside the 1/8" threaded fittings that came with kit. Got some 1/4" brass threaded fittings to 3/8 barb typed. Drilled out the 1/8" threads to 1/4" thread. Put the 1/4" fittings to the Catch Can. Taking a 3/8 hose from the tank vent to the new canister top center hole. Used the side outlet with the 90 degree fitting to go up to small air filter. (Used 3/8 fuel line hose as it is easier to slide on & take off as it's just vent pressure). Picked up a the small 3/8 air filter at my local auto store.

Here is the final installation. The canister has clearance as not to rub the frame tube. The one hose clamp holds the canister well. Seems like a nice location to drain the oil from the canister. I'm hoping this will work without oil coming out of the small air filter, if it does I'll route the vent hose towards the rear of fender.

I use a 2 ltr detergent bottle for a catch bottle between my engine mounts and run the breather hose from the crank case as well the slim breather hose from my oil tank into the top opening of the bottle but I don't put the hoses to the bottom of the bottle, the hoses fit nice and snug in the bottle opening and only have the hoses in about 1/4 of the way in the bottle, I get only a little bit of oil in the bottom and no froth at all, I have done it this way for 32 years now and only empty the catch bottle once a year, since the last 2 1/2 years back on the road I have only got less than 2ozs of black oil out of the bottle, with the 2 diffrent size hoses in the top opening there is still enought gap for air to excape the catch bottle.

If you have a close look just under my oil tank you can see the catch bottle.

Thats a good spot for it,nice idea too placing the filter away.

I always wondered why I loved Buells almost as much as my Nortons! Forget the rubber mounted engines, catch cans! Most every Buell I owned had one. Buell owners route the crank case breather and sometimes the tranny breather to catch cans. it's a common upgrade to prevent those nasties from going back into the intake or on your rear tire. American Sport Bike selss them, although a bit pricey. Folks on the Bad Weather Biker site can give you plenty of info, lol! Never thought about it for my Nortons, but they do get a bit grimey. Pegasus Racing makes a nice catch can
