In 1962 a new (broken in) 650ss was timed at MIRA on official timing gear.
Best run was 119.5.
Bruce Mainsmith riding and from the photo he is not the ideal rider for speed.
He's a fairly good sized fellow. A lot of the high speeds recorded were done with tiny riders. Makes quite a difference, not so much the weight as the wind resistance.
