Hey guys, had a front brake master cylinder o-ring fail and when I took it apart I discovered that the master is probably not standard. Does anyone recognize these internals? They look custom....thanks!

Looks very custom and a one off, is the master cylinder sleeved, more like its been bored out to remove corrosion pitting inside the body and the custom plunger made to suit.

Could it be the RGM one? I fitted one of those on my 850 many years ago and it's still on there but I can't remember what it looks like inside!

Larry,

I sure looks like that Old Britts unit with a stainless "D" washer and aluminum "follower". The Master body is also engraved with a serial number like the Old Britts site shows.........

The strange part is that my piston is 16mm......not 13mm. I will take a couple of better photos and post them shortly.

Here is what I have:

I had to "field strip" it since it happened in the middle of a long ride but once I saw I had a couple of busted o-rings I had to rear brake the bike home, that was weeks ago and now I can't quite figure out how it goes back together yet haha. The problem I think I might have is that the cartridge is 16mm, I think it was meant to be 13.......weird one.

I purchased my bike with these parts on it by the way..... hence I have no history on the "upgrade". I will probably inquire with Old Britts.

It's the sleeve I/D (and piston O/D) that's 13mm, not the O/D of the sleeve which I think is what you are measuring as 16mm because the original piston/bore is 5/8".

I will probably inquire with Old Britts.

As I mentioned previously Old Britts has closed down.

What is the best source for a complete replacement master? Mine is the mirror boss type.

Andover Norton can supply a complete 13mm master cylinder. Personally I would go for one of those now. Sleeving was ok when there was no alternative.

Not sure what bike you have, but for the MkII :

And the MkIII :
