Hi, can anyone tell me what cam is marked with the letter "P" stamped into the side of the lobe furthest from the tacho drive?
The cam was replaced in England in 2008. (the bike is now in Australia)
Thanks, Graeme.

I think, from memory that the 'P' marked camshafts are (one version of?) the later (hardened?) standard Andover Norton items?

I'm sure I have that information somewhere in my 'archive', but I'm not sure where, but I will see if I can find it?

L.A.B, thank you for your reply, and kommando also.
I've emailed Andover Norton and asked if they can identify the cam, no reply as yet. I will let you know when I know.
It would be nice to know what is in my engine when it goes back together.
Graeme.

My Commando has a cam with a P. It is a stock cam, I was told the P stood for Plumstead where they were made at the time but someone may know different.
Best

Hello all,
Further investigation seems to indicate that the cam marked "P" is the standard cam.
And was made in Wolverhampton.
The "P" denotes it has been "Parkerized"
I looked this up on Wikipedia. it says that it's a process similar to "blueing" which is used by gun manufacturers to prevent corrosion. Doesn't mention anything about hardening.
Thanks once again to all who answer my questions, you are all helping me get another Norton on the road. (and keep it there)
Regards Graeme.
